Flour, kerosene oil, and cotton piece goods are the throe leading American exports to this important distributing point, and the millers of California, Washington, and Oregon are looking with keen interest to this possible dislocation of their trade. A number of American companies have long had agents in Hongkong, who have done a very extensive business. Australian flour has come into this market during the past fifteen months, beginning with the shortage in California and continued by the boycott of American goods and other causes. Within the past twelve months the imports of Australian flour into Hongkong have totaled 800.000 to 1,000,000 sacks, 4 sacks of 11) pounds to a barrel of 19G pounds. The freight rate from Australia to Hongkong is about $3.65 per ton of 2,000 pounds, as against about $4.50 on the same weight from the Pacific coast.
